At The Mud House, we offer stand-alone throwing taster classes, as well as longer throwing courses designed to guide you from clay-confused to clay-confident in just 6 to 8 weeks. Our diverse range of pottery courses caters to all skill levels, from beginners to experienced ceramicists.

Regardless of the course you choose, you’ll enjoy personalised instruction in a supportive environment, ensuring a fulfilling and enjoyable experience.

  • We categorize our pottery skill levels into three distinct levels to cater to your individual learning needs:

    • Level 0:

      • This is our most basic level, designed for complete beginners.

      • It includes all Drop-in classes and any beginner weekend intensives or one-off courses.

    • Level 1:

      • This level is the minimum requirement to join as a member at The Mud House. However we ideally require at completion of a 8-12 week course

      • It includes our 6-week or 8-week foundational courses, where you'll learn essential pottery skills and techniques.

    • Level 2:

      • Ideal for members looking to further develop their skills, this level focuses on improvement.

      • It includes 12-week improver classes for both hand building and wheel throwing, perfect for those looking to refine their techniques.

    Whether you're just starting out or looking to advance your skills, The Mud House has something for everyone!

Level 0

Absolute beginners can try these courses! No previous experience required

  • This is our most basic level, designed for complete beginners.

  • To become a member you would need to continue to a Level 0&1 course

  • It includes all Drop-in classes and any beginner weekend intensives or one-off courses.

Course Levels: We categorise our pottery courses into three distinct levels 0/1 or 2.

Completing a Level 1 and/or Level 2 course is ideal to become an member at TMH

Level 1

Still a beginner but would have 6 weeks of course work under their belt. Covering hand building or all throwing & glazing. This is the absolute basic level to become a member.

  • This level is the minimum requirement to join as a member at The Mud House. However we ideally require at completion of a 8-12 week course

  • It includes our 6-week or 8-week foundational courses, where you'll learn essential pottery skills and techniques & include glazing.

Level 2:

Level 2 can be obtained through our 12 week beginners courses (Level 0/1/2). By the end of the course you would have a firm understanding of hand-building or throwing processes. Most importantly covered glazing at least twice!

  • Improvers sessions: Ideal for potters or members looking to further develop their skills, this level focuses on improvement.

  • It can include 12-week beginners, improvers & specialist masterclasses
