Hand Building & Decorating Course
Get your hands in the clay and discover what you can make without a wheel. Over 12 weeks, you’ll learn pinching, coiling and slab building, then explore slip painting, sgraffito, texture and glazing. You’ll finish with a personal project designed and made by you from start to finish. Whether you’re brand new to clay or want to build your confidence and creativity, this course takes you from first pinch pot to your own finished collection, with expert tutor support every step of the way.

Complete beginners who’d love to learn hand-building from the ground up, with no experience needed
Improvers who’ve dabbled in clay and want to strengthen their skills, especially in decoration and surface
Creative thinkers who want to go beyond techniques and develop their own ideas into finished pieces
Anyone who prefers working by hand to the wheel, or wants a slower, more sculptural way of making
Course Highlights
Our 12-week course covers hand-building, decoration and glazing, then gives you the time to design and make your own project.
Small groups: a maximum of 10 students, so you get plenty of one-to-one guidance from our tutors.
Everything’s included: clay, tools, materials and refreshments (yes, biscuits too!).
Firing not included: your final pieces are paid at the end at 10£ per kilo
The day runs for up to 2.5 hours. If you finish early, you’re welcome to stay and keep working.
Collection: your pieces will be ready 5–6 weeks after the course. Drying times vary with the weather.

Now it’s your turn: design and make your own personal project.
Collection evening: pick up your fired work and celebrate what you’ve made, on a date agreed with your tutor and group.
Cost
Courses: £360 per person for 12 sessions (inc VAT)
