Join our 12-week Wheel Throwing Course, tailored for both beginners and those looking to improve their skills! Level 0,1 &2

This engaging program will immerse you in the art of pottery, covering key techniques and essential skills, including clay preparation, safety practices, and wheel throwing fundamentals.

Session 1,2 &3: Learning- you will learn how to throw, trim and attach through guidance and in depth demos

Session 4,5&6: Explore- lidded pots, attaching components & glazing

Session 7,8,9,10,11,12: Create- focus on your own project with expert guidance

Level 1: You'll learn to create cylinders, bowls As well as techniques for trimming and glazing to finish your pieces beautifully.

Level 2: You should have completed a throwing course at a beginner level either at TMH or similar. You will learn more about complex forms, throwing with intention and repetition, throwing larger pieces and attaching larger pieces.

Course Highlights:

• Studio Setup & Safety: Master the essential safety practices for navigating the pottery studio.

• Materials & Equipment: Familiarize yourself with the clay, tools, and equipment you'll be using.

• Basic Throwing Techniques: Gain confidence in creating unique forms on the wheel.

• Glazing Fundamentals: Discover how to glaze your pieces to bring them to life.

• Show and Tell Evening: Celebrate your progress by showcasing your creations while enjoying refreshments with fellow students!

• Each 2.5hr session includes 15-20 minutes clean up which is crucial in the pottery world. It ensures students and team members can work in a safe and healthy studio)

• If you finish earlier than expected you are welcome to continue working and using the space

• Any pots that are kept will be charged at a rate of 10£ per kilo of work (weighed at pick up)

This course is ideal for anyone eager to explore wheel throwing in a supportive environment. It is suitable for participants aged 16 and older.

With each class limited to just 8 students, you'll receive plenty of individual attention and guidance from our expert instructors. Your handcrafted pieces will be ready for collection within 3 weeks, depending on weather conditions.

What’s Included:

The course fee covers all tuition, clay, tools, materials, and refreshments (including biscuits!). Please note that additional firing costs are £10 per kilo of finished work, covering both bisque and glaze firing.

Refund Policy:

• This course must be booked and paid for in full.

• Due to limited space, we cannot offer full refunds for cancellations, but we strive to accommodate changes whenever possible. Our cancellation policy is as follows:

  • Cancellations will incur a 10% administration fee.

  • Cancellations up to 3 weeks before the class will receive an 80% refund.

  • Cancellations 2 weeks before the class will receive a 40% refund.

  • Unfortunately, cancellations made after this period will not be refunded.

If you cannot attend, you may transfer your booking to someone else, but no refunds will be given for missed classes, and transfers between different classes are not allowed. If the tutor is unable to conduct a specific session, a catch-up session will be arranged for the group. Should the entire course be canceled, a full refund will be issued.

Absence during the course

Due to the nature of the course and set-up it is difficult to reschedule certain sessions. Please be aware this is a small business & pottery is a time sensitive process so in some cases rescheduling is not possible - If we are able to accommodate we will arrange another session.

Our 12-week course is divided into three sections: LEARN, EXPLORE, and IMPLEMENT:

• Sessions: 2.5 hours each (some may be shorter depending on progress, but you’re welcome to continue using the space if this occurs. We always finish with at least 20 minutes for cleaning).

• LEARN (Weeks 1-4): Understanding the clay lifecycle, health and safety, firing cycles. Foundations of throwing, creating cylinders and bowls, trimming, refining, attaching, decorative techniques, finishing with glazing and testing.

• EXPLORE (Weeks 5-9): Attaching components like spouts and handles, making lidded pots.

• IMPLEMENT (Weeks 10-12): Designing and creating your own project, then glazing it.

Daytime Course: £450 (12 sessions) Inc VAT

Evening Course: £480 per person (12 sessions) Inc VAT

Terms and Conditions for Payment Plan – 8-12 Week Courses

The Mud House offers 2-step payment plans for 8- and 12-week courses. The plan involves a 50% non-refundable deposit, with the remaining balance due 5 days before the course begins. Please email hello@themudhouse.co.uk to receive details for the payment plan.

1. Deposit: A 50% non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking to secure your place in the course. This deposit covers administrative costs and secures your spot.

2. Remaining Balance: The remaining balance must be paid in full at least 5 days prior to the course start date. Failure to pay the balance by this deadline may result in the cancellation of your booking, and your deposit will not be refunded.
